* fix(#424): fully fix logout→login cycle — clear ViewModel state + manage WS lifecycle
The previous fix (PR #427) fixed button responsiveness after logout
but left two issues that kept login-after-logout broken:
1. Stale ViewModel state — AuthLoginViewModel is Activity-scoped,
so stayed from the first login. When
the user returned to the login screen, LaunchedEffect fired
instantly with the stale value and bounced them to ChatScreen
without showing the form.
Fix: DisposableEffect(onDispose) clears connectionSuccess,
errorMessage, and isLoading when the screen leaves composition.
2. WebSocket lifecycle — logout() never disconnected the WS, so
it stayed open with a null/stale token. After re-login, no one
called connect() with the fresh credentials.
Fix: HermesWsClient.disconnect() on logout,
HermesWsClient.connect() after successful re-login.
* fix(#424): route landing screen clicks through navigateTo
Avoid direct backStack.add() calls to prevent duplicate screen overlay and unresponsive buttons.
* fix(#424): close drawer when gestures are disabled
Ensure the drawer is closed when transitioning to LandingScreen or LoginScreen to prevent the scrim overlay from intercepting clicks.

Replace LaunchedEffect(startScreen) pattern with remember(startScreen)
keyed recreation of NavBackStack. Mutating the same NavBackStack by
clearing and re-adding entries confuses Navigation3's internal state,
causing duplicate screen entries that compete for touch events.
The fix creates a fresh NavBackStack whenever startScreen changes
(chat -> landing), avoiding any stale-state mutation issues.

* feat(#350): pairing login flow with QR scan + manual entry
Adds PairingCodeEntryScreen with CameraX + ML Kit QR scanning
and manual code entry. The screen parses hermes://connect URIs,
Base64-encoded JSON, and raw token formats, validates via
/api/status, and saves credentials on success.
- New PairingCodeEntryScreen + PairingCodeEntryViewModel
- CameraX 1.4.1 + ML Kit barcode-scanning 17.3.0
- CAMERA permission + proguard rules
- Landing screen Pairing Login button wired correctly
* fix(#350): resolve smart-cast on delegated property for errorMessage
Co-authored-by: Hy4ri <hy4ri@users.noreply.github.com>
* refactor(#421): remove QR scanner from pairing login
- Remove CameraX + ML Kit barcode dependencies
- Drop CAMERA permission and camera feature from manifest
- Strip QrScannerTab, QrCodeScannerView, processFrame composables
- Remove camera permission state/methods from ViewModel
- Purge all QR/camera strings from strings.xml
- Delete ML Kit proguard rules
The pairing login now shows only the manual code entry UI.

* feat(#349): smart auth login flow — probe dashboard, show correct fields
Landing screen with two buttons (Auth Login / Pairing Login) replaces
ConnectScreen as the start screen. Auth login probes the dashboard to
detect what auth it needs (token-only, basic-auth, or both) and shows
only the relevant input fields.
Changes:
- NavigationKeys.kt: add LandingScreen, AuthLoginScreen NavKeys
- LandingScreen.kt: new screen with hero icon + two login buttons
- AuthLoginScreen.kt: IP/Port input, probe logic, dynamic field rendering
- AuthLoginViewModel.kt: probe API, dashboard auth detection, connect flow
- Navigation.kt: wire new screens, start on LandingScreen, hide bottom bar
- strings.xml: add string resources for both screens
* fix(#351): align AuthLoginScreen field names with ViewModel API, fix TAG refs
- state.isProbing → state.probing
- DashboardAuthMode.BOTH → DashboardAuthMode.ALL
- viewModel.probe() → viewModel.probeDashboard()
- state.isConnecting → state.isLoading
- Removed unused TAG constant, replaced with inline tag string
- Made connectTokenOnly suspend to fix safeApiCall compilation
This fixes the CI compilation errors.
* fix(#351): revert probeDashboard() call to probe() to match VM
* fix(#351): rename isProbing to probing in ViewModel
* fix(#351): follow redirects in basic auth login — / redirects to /login
* fix(#351): show all fields when basic auth detected — still needs session token for WS
* refactor(#349): remove old ConnectScreen, clean up NavKey + navigation
* fix(#351): validate token against /api/sessions (auth-protected) instead of /api/status (public)
/api/status is a public endpoint that returns 200 even with wrong tokens,
causing invalid tokens to be saved and the WebSocket to spin forever on
the chat screen. /api/sessions requires auth and returns 401 on bad tokens.
* fix(#351): rewrite basic auth login — POST to /auth/password-login, then fetch SPA with cookie to extract token
* fix(#351): use ticket-based WS auth when basic auth is active
The updated dashboard on 0.0.0.0 always has auth_required=True, which
rejects legacy ?token= in favor of ?ticket= (single-use, 30s TTL).
Added AuthManager.setWsAuthParam() to support both ?token= (loopback)
and ?ticket= (gated mode) in wsUrl(). connectBasicAuth now mints a
ticket via POST /api/auth/ws-ticket after login instead of extracting
the token from the SPA.
* fix(#351): use requirePrefs() instead of direct prefs reference in wsUrl()
* fix(#351): handle relaxed-mock empty string in wsUrl() authParam fallback
* feat(#349): auto-extract session token from SPA HTML during probe
The probe now extracts the __HERMES_SESSION_TOKEN__ value from the
dashboard SPA and auto-populates the token field in TOKEN_ONLY mode,
eliminating the need for manual token pasting.
- Introduced ProbeResult data class to carry authMode + extractedToken
- Regex extraction of __HERMES_SESSION_TOKEN__ from dashboard HTML
- Token field auto-filled on probe completion for TOKEN_ONLY mode
* fix(#349): return BASIC_AUTH from probe when basic auth detected
Bug: probe returned ALL instead of BASIC_AUTH for basic-auth-only
dashboards, causing token+credential fields to show and the connect
flow to fall through to connectTokenOnly() on basic auth failure,
producing a confusing 'Unauthorized (HTTP 401)' NetworkResult error.
Fix: probe now returns DashboardAuthMode.BASIC_AUTH when a redirect
to /login is detected. BASIC_AUTH in connect() calls
connectBasicAuth() directly with no fallback. ALL mode also no longer
falls through to connectTokenOnly().
* fix(#349): use session cookie for REST API in gated mode
The dashboard's gated mode authenticates REST API requests via
session cookies (hermes_session_at), not Bearer tokens. The app
was storing the WS ticket as the token and sending it as
Authorization: Bearer <ticket> for all REST calls, which the
server rejected with 401.
- Extract hermes_session_at cookie from Set-Cookie header after
POST /auth/password-login and store it in AuthManager
- ApiClient authInterceptor now sends Cookie header when session
cookie is present, falls back to Bearer token for loopback mode
- ConnectResult carries both WS credential (ticket) and session
cookie separately
- WS ticket used only for WebSocket (?ticket=), session cookie
used for REST API
* feat(#349): add logout button to Settings > About
Red error-style button that clears all auth credentials (token,
session cookie, WS auth param) and navigates back to LandingScreen.
Wired through SettingsScreen onLogout callback to Navigation.kt.
* fix(#349): improve logout navigation flow
* fix(#349): keep backstack stable across logout
Use remember without keys for NavBackStack so the same backstack
object persists across startScreen changes. Use LaunchedEffect keyed
on startScreen to reset stack content atomically. This avoids
NavDisplay losing snapshot observation when a new NavBackStack
object is created.
* fix(#349): mint fresh WS ticket on every connect
The WS ticket is a single-use 30-second credential. On app restart
(or reconnect), the stored ticket is expired. Now refreshWsTicketIfNeeded()
mints a new ticket using the session cookie before every WS connection
attempt. Loopback mode (no session cookie) is unaffected.
* fix(#349): refresh ticket in openSocket for reconnect paths
scheduleReconnect() bypasses connect() and calls openSocket()
directly. Moving the ticket refresh into openSocket() ensures
every WS connection attempt — first launch and reconnect —
uses a fresh ticket.
* fix(#349): stub getSessionCookie() in ApiClientTest
mockkObject(AuthManager) is strict, so unstubbed getSessionCookie()
calls throw MockKException which manifests as IOException.

* Fix Medium severity performance findings (PERF-17 to PERF-21)
This commit addresses the following performance findings:
- PERF-17: Implemented a message queue in `HermesWsClient` using `ConcurrentLinkedQueue`. If the WebSocket is disconnected, messages are queued and flushed upon a successful connection (`onOpen`).
- PERF-18: Added exponential backoff to `safeApiCall` for 5xx and IO exceptions, reducing the load on a struggling server.
- PERF-19: Optimized Kanban task filtering by performing `groupBy` upfront inside a `remember` block and passing item keys to `LazyColumn`, avoiding O(C×T) calculation per recomposition.
- PERF-20: Updated `getLogs` API in `HermesApiService` to accept `lines` and `limit` query params to truncate logs early, avoiding potential JSON parsing OOMs with large log files.
- PERF-21: Optimized drawer entry generation in `Navigation.kt` by grouping navigation items inside a `remember` block.

* Fix WebSocket events being silently dropped on buffer overflow
Increases the MutableSharedFlow `extraBufferCapacity` from 64 to 256
and changes the `onBufferOverflow` policy to `BufferOverflow.DROP_OLDEST`
in `HermesWsClient.kt`. This fixes an issue where the slow collection
(e.g., due to DB writes) caused the buffer to fill up and silently drop

* Fix ktlint formatting issues in HermesWsClient.kt
The formatting changes adhere to ktlint rules required by the CI pipeline:
- Removed a trailing comma in MutableSharedFlow initialization to avoid multiline expression wrapping errors.
- Sorted imports to be in lexicographical order.
These formatting changes fix the failing CI check.

* Fix: Prevent AuthManager state pollution on connection verification
Modified `ConnectViewModel.connect()` to construct a temporary OkHttpClient and Retrofit builder, isolated from the global `ApiClient` state. The connection verification is executed using this temporary service. Only upon a successful HTTP response does the system persist the configured `host`, `port`, and `token` to the global `AuthManager` and triggers an `ApiClient.rebuild()`. This resolves the issue where a failed connection attempt would overwrite active and verified profiles. Extracted `createTempService` factory to `ApiClient` for robustness and clean tests.

Issue #278 reported that `AuthManager.getToken()` (which reads from
`EncryptedSharedPreferences`) was being called synchronously inside the
`MainNavigation` composable, causing UI thread blocks during navigation
transitions (PERF-10).
This commit resolves the issue by caching the token in a new `tokenFlow`
(`MutableStateFlow`) within `AuthManager`.
- The flow is initialised with the token during `AuthManager.init()`.
- Updates to the token (`setToken`, `setSelectedProfileId`,
`setProfileToken`) are synchronised with `tokenFlow`.
- `MainNavigation` now correctly observes this state using
`collectAsState()`, preventing disk-read blocking on recompositions.
Impact: Navigation transitions are now fully non-blocking. No side effects
are expected as state synchronisation maintains parity with persistent storage.

Adds a colored dot next to the '⚡ Hermes' brand header in the
navigation drawer:
- Green: connected
- Yellow: connecting / reconnecting
- Red: disconnected
Uses a StateFlow on HermesWsClient that tracks the WebSocket
connection lifecycle and is collected in the drawer header.
## What
Adds a new Navigation Bar section to Settings where users can customize which items appear in the bottom navigation bar.
## Features
- Pick from any of the 19 drawer screens (max 5 items)
- Remove items with a close/delete button
- Items persist via SharedPreferences (CSV format)
- Invalid names are silently dropped
- Existing screens and auth-aware filtering respected
Closes#23
Complete UI/UX rewrite of hermes-mobile with Material You design system.
Phase 1: Color/Theme/Type/Shapes/Spacing/Motion tokens
Phase 2: HermesScaffold, StateViews (skeleton/empty/error), SearchBar, StatusBadge, ToggleRow
Phase 3: Bottom nav + drawer navigation with NavigationController
Phase 4: All 17 screens rewritten with HermesScaffold and Material You patterns
Closes PR #3.
B7 (Jun 18 2026): user reported Settings page unresponsive when
reached via the ChatScreen topbar gear icon, but worked fine via
the drawer sidebar. Two fixes:
1. Route topbar gear through NavigationController.navigateTo()
instead of raw backStack.add(). The NavigationController path
(used by the drawer) deduplicates against the current top
entry and matches the drawer's navigation flow exactly. The
bypass path could stack duplicate SettingsScreen entries on
rapid taps, which likely caused the unresponsive symptom.
2. Add 'Clear Token' OutlinedButton below the Auth Token field in
Settings. One-tap wipes a corrupted / rejected token and saves
immediately, without having to select-and-delete the masked
password field character by character. Recovers from the
'I gave you a bad token' scenario in seconds.
* feat(ui): modern theme, sectioned drawer, shared components (v1)
Foundation for the modern redesign — fixes the biggest UX problems
(that vague "better ui ux" ticket) without rewriting all 20 screens
at once. This puts the infrastructure in place and modernizes the
highest-traffic screens.
Theme (
- Disable Material You dynamic color by default — brand identity
(Voltage Purple) wins. Can opt back in via HermesControlTheme.
- 3-step elevation ladder (surface / surfaceVariant / surfaceHigh)
with subtle blue tint so dark mode stops reading as flat black.
- Full Material 3 type hierarchy — every style explicitly tuned,
tighter letter spacing, comfortable line heights.
- New Shapes.kt (xs→xl rounded corner tokens) and Spacing.kt
(xs/sm/md/lg/xl/xxl spacing tokens) — no more ad-hoc dp values.
Navigation (
- Sectioned drawer: 17 items were dumped at one indent level with
duplicate icons (Channels & Chat both used the Chat icon!). Now
grouped into 4 logical sections — Converse / Automate / Configure
/ Inspect — with section headers and sane per-item icons.
- Settings added to the drawer (was previously hidden behind
ChatScreen's gear icon — bad IA).
- gesturesEnabled check collapsed from an 18-term OR chain into a
single set-membership test.
Common components (
- HermesScaffold: shared drawer-aware Scaffold + TopAppBar with
slots for refresh / actions. Removes the per-screen duplication
seen in SkillsScreen, CronJobsScreen, ChannelsScreen, etc.
- StateViews: LoadingState / ErrorState / EmptyState / list content
padding tokens — every list screen now renders loading/error/
empty identically instead of ad-hoc per screen.
Modernized screens:
- ConnectScreen: hero brand badge (was a lone "⚡" glyph), pairing
as the primary path, manual token/host/port collapsed behind a
toggle (was always-visible clutter), Card-in-Card nesting removed.
- SkillsScreen: now uses HermesScaffold + EmptyState + ErrorState +
LoadingState. Adds a search field, leading icon per row, and a
category sublabel.
Follow-up commits will migrate the remaining ~15 list screens onto
HermesScaffold; this commit stops at the foundation + the two screens
that see the most daily use.
Verified: ktlint clean across the entire tree.

* fix(imports): add missing safeDrawingPadding + dp imports
CI caught three compile errors that ktlint doesn't flag (unresolved
references are not lint errors, they're compile errors):
- Navigation.kt:239 — Modifier.safeDrawingPadding() import was
dropped when the file was rewritten for the sectioned drawer.
- SkillsScreen.kt:117 — `16.dp` and `12.dp` references had no
`androidx.compose.ui.unit.dp` import after the file was rewritten
onto HermesScaffold.
No code changes — pure import fixes.

* ci: split monolithic job into 4 parallel jobs + summary
Before — one job ran ktlint → lint → test → build sequentially. If
ktlint failed you waited ~30s to find out, and the test/build stages
never even started (no useful artifacts uploaded on partial failure).
After — 4 jobs run in parallel on every push and PR:
1. ktlint (fast feedback, ~30s)
2. android-lint (parallel, includes compileDebugKotlin)
3. unit-tests (parallel, JUnit 5 + mockk)
4. build (gated by 1+2+3, only runs if all pass)
Plus a 5th `ci-summary` job that aggregates results so branch
protection only needs a single status check configured.
Other improvements:
- concurrency cancel-in-progress — new commits on the same ref
cancel the stale run instead of piling up.
- timeout-minutes on every job — no more hung runners burning minutes
on a stuck Gradle daemon.
- workflow_dispatch — can trigger manually from the Actions tab.
- Per-job artifact uploads with `if: always()` — reports upload even
when the job fails, so you can download test/lint reports to debug.
- Removed the monolithic "verification-reports" artifact that tried
to upload three unrelated paths and failed silently with "No files
were found" when an early step bailed.
Co-Authored-By: Ronia <ronia@m57>
* ci: silence ktlint artifact-not-found annotation
Adds `if-no-files-found: ignore` to the ktlint artifact upload step
because ktlint 1.2.1 does not produce HTML reports on success — only
on failure. The previous config `if-no-files-found: warn` (default)
emitted a noisy annotation on every green run.
